In choosing, purchasing or buying a digital camera and in the course of your photography venture, you may meet different photography terms. And for a beginner, you may have no idea of what do these photography terms stands for. It is vital to know the basic photography terms first to have a know-how on the craft you wish to indulge into.

Here are some of the basic photography terms you might want to note:

Lens. Lens is among the common photography terms. This refers to the part of the camera which allows focused light in the image sensor. You may have seen those tubes in the camera which is focused to your subject when making a shot. Those are lenses. In DSLR’s lenses can be extended to promote a closer shot of far objects which are subjects for photos. See those big and long tubes in professional photographers taking pictures in sports events like FIFA?

Pixel. You might have heard of the word pixilated. Pixels are the tiniest part of the digital photo. A photo is made up of pixels–million of pixels. For instance try enlarging or zooming in a small and low-quality digital photo in your computer. The dots you can see are the pixels.

Resolution. This refers to the over all quantity of pixels in a photo. The higher the resolution, the best quality the photo can be and the larger the photo you can print. Increasing the resolution would make your images sharper,

Joint Photographic Experts Group. This is popularly known as JPEG. It is a photo format for saving photos in digital cameras.

Memory Card. This is a card where in digital files are stored. It can store hundreds and hundreds of photos depending on its storage capacity.

Liquid Crystal Display. LCD is a feature of every digital camera where in a photographer can preview his taken shots. It is also use as a viewer of a scene before a photographer takes his shots.

Aperture. Aperture is the opening of the lens which permits light to travel in the camera sensor to capture images.

Sensor. This plays the role of the film in digital cameras. This photography term refers to the digital strip in the camera that converts light to an electrical signal that is essential in freezing a scene.

Shutter Speed. Shutter speed refers to the duration in which the aperture is open. Slower shutter speed enables more light to go through your camera. Shutter speed is very essential for exposure. A hint is, if you want to make your photo clearer when you are in a sort of dark room, you can slow the shutter speed by allowing long presses to the camera shutter button. But note that too much light can cause over exposure.

Filters. Filters are common camera accessories put on lenses to give a sharper effect in colors of photos. Usually they come in various colors. They are use for a more dramatic photograph.

Above are just few of the many photography terms worth learning. They are just the basics in which a beginner should keep in mind for the know-how of the craft. There are still a lot of photography terms and learning them is also worth while.

The secret of a good photograph is knowing the basic of your machine. Studying angles and playing on effects can also be a good step to learn photography. But it is also good to experiment in taking shots. To that one can learn more tricks and can be at ease with the equipment he or she is using. Capturing a scene. Ever find a best scenery you can make a subject for your digital photography? You may have. So don’t be a little hesitant to have your cameras point and click at that scene. What makes a good photograph is capturing the environment of the scene–the emotions, the beauty and everything that comprises your choosen subject. If you can drive those things out on your photographs, that could be brilliant.

Angling. Proper angling is really necessary in capturing beautiful digital photographs. Angling is among the many digital photography tips that any digital photography enthusiast should be aware of. One of the most common angles in photography is the rule of thirds. This angling creates balance to several points of your subject. Another common angle use in digital photography is triangulation, which is best for portraits. There are a lot of angles one can play and experiment. These angles can depict emotions too. Angles can create the best photographs.

Lighting. Lighting is another element on digital photography that one should not ignorant of. Light is a basic in photography. Without it, you cannot get pictures at all. So one should also know how to regulate the light that goes through there lenses to avoid common photography problems like over-exposure, under exposure and red-eye. Here’s a trick, in clicking your cameras the length of your press can be determinant to the light in your photos. Long press allows more light than short presses. But note that if you want to capture action, long presses do not work since they slow the shutter speed. One should also be aware of the lighting features–like night mode–of the camera being used.

These are just three of the many digital photography tips. But, they are essential in starting your hobby in digital photography. They can just be basic knowledge in starting your photography interest but they will surely help.
